Message [Brett]: When the disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith (Luke 17:5), Jesus’ answer conveyed the difficult truth that the only way to gain faith is to USE the little faith we already have. When a child is learning to walk, we see this truth in motion! When we learn to ride a bike, the same truth operates. Even young birds, though created to fly, don’t become flying aces on their first attempt! Faith takes practice. And moving mountains (Jesus says it CAN be done - see Matt 17:20) takes faith in the face of things that are bigger than WE are. We have to muster our courage, if we are to begin such a task - sometimes with what would seem to be a teaspoon as our only tool! But faith will grow, truth will prevail, and God’s kingdom will come - as surely as God causes seeds to sprout and grass to grow in the cracks.
