22 WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

Message [Brett]: Life is complicated, but sometimes we make it even more complicated than it already is. Jesus reminds Martha (Luke 10:38-42) that He wants only what she CAN do, not what she CAN’T do; a simple offering is enough. Jesus instructs His disciples (Matt 18:2-3) that they must have a childlike trust and a childlike humility (a recognition that they can’t rely solely on themselves), if they wish to enter God’s kingdom. David pictures his soul (Psalm 131:2) as a weaned child resting peacefully against its mother’s breast. Paul instructs his readers (Phil 4:6) to “be anxious for nothing, but let your requests be known to God.” (In other words, tell God what’s on your heart.) Peter gives timeless advice (1 Pet 5:7) when he says that we are to cast all our anxieties on God, “because He cares” for us. Peter doesn’t emphasize COMMAND. He simply states that it MAKES SENSE for us to cast our cares on God, since God is FOR us and WITH us.
