GUIDEPOSTS
When we first started this site, we felt that small gatherings of disenfranchised Christians would help bring healing to their spirits and reconnect them to mainstream communities. This hasn't been the case. Most people who've been burned by church are disinclined to make any "real person" effort to reconnect with anything resembling church or ministry.
We developed the Guideposts listed below as a structural answer the question "What is Humble Walk?" As we change this website from one designed to facilitate small groups to a simple web resource, it seems important that these values are still made clear.
1. The focus of our Humble Walk is primarily on the individual believer's walk with God.
To facilitate this, we must be 100% respectful of every other believer's place on the path - regardless of gender, race, age, denominational background, or reasons for being displaced from other Christian communities.
To the extent possible, we do not define ourselves or others with denominational labels (i.e., Baptist, Catholic, Assembly of God, etc.). When we are gathered together as friends, in ministry or in worship, the only label we wear is "Christian."
2. Change is fundamental to Humble Walk. No journey is accomplished by standing still.
Do not expect to find "The Answer" to all things. Do not expect to find a "new church." Do not expect to find the "perfect" anything or anyone. Do not expect tangible support from others beyond prayer and a fellowship in Christ that would be akin to coming alongside another hiker on a path. Your companions on this Humble Walk are struggling, too. This is a PERSONAL JOURNEY! We expect the Holy Spirit to reveal the things that will enrich and strengthen your life from within your spirit.
3. On our journey, we will endeavor to share the most basic tenets of our Common Christian Faith.
We do not impose or persuade ANY doctrinal beliefs upon another companion!! Instead, we rejoice in and learn from the many, varied expressions of our Common Christian Faith.
In general (but not conclusively), these are:
A Trinitarian belief in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Remembering Christ through communion.
Worshipping God in music and song.
Listening for God's voice in Active Silence
Being educated and encouraged by scripture.
Discovering and nurturing spiritual gifts.
Prayer in many fashions.
Expressing Christ to others around us.
