Summary of the Gathering
We had a lovely and energetic group of about 14 this month. We discussed ideas on how to "cease striving" or "be still" and allow God to bring peace into our lives when we live in a world filled with so many things demanding our attention.
Those present were asked to offer examples of things that prevent us for "being still" before God and to share ways they help overcome "striving" in order to rest in the Lord.
Examples of things that challenge us:
Too much to do - being over-committed
Distractions - issues, relationships, problems
Interruptions putting us further behind, creating a sense of being overwhelmed
Television and other media inputs
Being so isolated that we have nothing to do
Examples of things that help us:
Praying a small prayer
Deliberately resting in Him
Focus on completing one task at a time and picturing how that success will look
Reminding ourselves that God is interested foremost in our "relationship" as sons and daughters to Him, not how much work He can get out of us.
This was a truly encouraging gathering with many of us leaving more light and blessed than when we arrived. If you haven't met with us, I hope to see you soon!
